Resumen: Orofacial myotherapy is the new opportunity to help patients breathe well, eat well, sleep well, grow well with a proper posture, developed face and healthy smile. Orofacial myofunctional disorders may affect directly and/or indirectly breastfeeding, facial and skeletal growth. And since pediatric dentists come in contact with children in their early growth stages, pediatric dentists are able to diagnose, prevent and intercept various malocclusions and disorders. With the introduction of orofacial myofunctional therapy we can treat a myriad of abnormal behaviors that interfere with normal orofacial muscle functioning and /or dentofacial development. Orofacial myofunctional therapy is painless and the exercises are relatively simple. With myofunctional therapy, a patient can regain the joy of eating, speaking, breathing, and even sleeping more soundly. Cosmetic improvements can help restore confidence and self-esteem. The increasing awareness of orofacial myofunctional therapy amongst the medical, dental, and academic communities is causing a progressive change in the field of pediatric dentistry.
